Complete Results
The PCISA PCCs were run by The San Francisco Yacht Club
at Treasure Island Sailing center on the weekend of April 20 - 21, 2002.
Conditions were excellent, with sunny skies both days. Racing started in
Clipper Cove at 10:30 on Saturday, with winds of 8 - 10 knots from the
west, building to 15 - 18 knots by late afternoon, and dropping to 12 -
15 knots as the fog rolled in for the last couple of races. Ten A and to
B races were run on Saturday. Sunday dawned clear and warm, with
drifting conditions as the regatta was supposed to get under way. The
Race Committee postponed for about an hour, and the first race was run
outside the cove in 5 knots of wind. As the westerly filled, the rest of
the races were run inside the cove, starting in 5 - 8 knots, and
finishing at 3:30 in 12 - 15 knots. Four A and four B races were run on
Sunday.
Coronado High School won the regatta, and the Wakeman Trophy, with 91
total points. Point Loma High School finished second, with 124 points,
and Santa Barbara High School finished third, with 145 points. Andrew
Campbell and Hillary Shapiro of the Bishop's School were the low point A
fleet skipper and crew, with 34 points. Brian Haines and Blair Herron of
Coronado were the low point B fleet skipper and crew, with 39 points.
Congratulations to all of the sailors for a great regatta.
In addition, I would like to thank the crew that made this regatta
possible:
SFYC, Stanford University Sailing team, the University of California -
Berkeley sailing team, Newport Harbor YC, and the Robert Louis Stevenson
School for generously lending boats to the regatta so that all teams
wishing to borrow boats could do so.
The Treasure Island Sailing Foundation and the Treasure Island Sailing
Center for allowing us to use their exceptional venue for dinghy
sailing.
The Cal Berkeley sailing team for all of the scorekeeping.
Jill Mantz for registration and Camille Dibble for lunches.
John Gutenkunst for being dockmaster and chief repair guru.
Matt Jones and Kers Clausen for excellent PRO work.
Skip McCormack (UCSC 2001), Casey Woodrum (SDSU a few years ago), James
Learned, Emery Sanford and Matt Schuman (current Cal sailors) and Don
Jesberf (USC a long time ago) for exceptional judge and protest
committee work.
Tom Martin, Kim Bishop, Andy Fromm, Jim Robinson, Al Finley, Kathy
Clausen and John Carapiet for being on the water.
Whoever I have (in a moment of weakness) forgotten.
Finally, on behalf of the regatta organizers, I would like to thank the
sailors - they did a great job, sailing their boats cleanly, rotating
quickly, and generally making it a pleasure to be involved.
Thanks to everybody for their good work. Next stop is the Mallory in
three weeks.
