June 2003 PCISA Report

• PCISA finished another very successful season. Point Loma High School completed a “Clean Sweep” with wins in the Cressy, Mallory and Baker National Championships. Newport Harbor High School placed 4th at the Mallory and 2nd at the Baker in addition to winning the PCC’s. University High of San Diego had a strong showing to place 2nd at the Mallory.

• Point Loma just edged out Newport Harbor to win the coveted “Roy E. Disney Trophy”. The score was 52 points to 51 points representing 8 PCISA regattas this past year.

• Overall, the PCISA regattas were very well run. The quality of sailing has continued to improve and the sailors, parents, yacht club members and organizers are certainly enjoying all the events.

• Special congratulations to Jerelyn Biehl, Brent Boyd and the Mission Bay Yacht Club for the running of the Baker. The regatta was fantastic, unless you were a race committee member. They ran a total of 70 races on Saturday, finishing at 8:00 PM which made for a very long day.

• PCISA purchased 60 new sails from Ullman Sails and North Sails. We used 24 at the Baker with color coated PCISA stickers

• The PCC’s was very successful with 19 teams competing, which included 2 Hawaiian teams - Castle and Punahoe. Newport Harbor and Marin Catholic sailed exceptionally well beating PCISA’s top team, Point Loma.

• Unfortunately, two teams that qualified to sail in the PCC’s were unable to due to a shortage of sailors. Each team needed to train an additional sailor during the year in order to participate in the championship.

• We had 14 teams at the Silver Championship with Point Loma dominating the event with a 62-point victory. This sounds familiar.

• The PCISA annual meeting will be in September. A draft of the fall schedule will be posted shortly.

• The annual ISSA meeting will be held in our district this year. The meeting is scheduled for September 27th at the Newport Harbor Yacht Club.
